The Kiwanis Club of Monument Hill

About Us

HISTORY

In 1974, three charter members founded the Monument Hill Sertoma Club, a club dedicated to Service to Mankind and focused primarily on service to our community and youth.  As all Sertoma clubs do, we also shared a special interest in addressing speech and hearing defects within and outside our area.  The club started with a mere handful of charter members, but grew quickly as the need for service and the Club’s ability to help fulfill it became well recognized within the community.  In fact, at one point in recent years the Club grew to almost 200 members, becoming at that time the largest club in the Sertoma International family.

Through our Sertoma years, the Club provided exemplary service to the area and to the Sertoma organization as a whole.  Among its current membership, for example, the Club counts two past Sertoma International Presidents, three International Directors, and five District Governors.  But the Club values most the community acceptance and recognition it has received over the years for its efforts.

Sertoma is and remains an outstanding organization.  But, in recent years, as all service organizations in the United States have declined in membership and available resources, our Club’s focus on community and youth has intensified  -- as has our need to affiliate with a like-minded organization.
